About The Byre

A detached, stone barn conversion renovated to a high standard, situated at the edge of the village of Castlemartin. Beautifully finished in a modern style, yet retaining its original charm with A frame beams, exposed stone wall and cottage doors. The open plan living space has a large comfortable sofa unit to relax on in front of the multifuel stove on chillier evenings and a modern fitted galley style kitchenette, which has cleverly made full use of the space. The pretty romantic main bedroom forms a welcoming retreat and has a galleried crog loft which gives additional room to relax. Doors from The Byre open on to your own paved patio area; the perfect spot for an alfresco meal, while steps lead to the large, enclosed and shared lawned garden.

With this glorious beach less than 2 miles away and all the facilities of Pembroke within a 15 minute drive this really is an unusual yet stylish holiday retreat for families and couples alike.

This property shares the same location as 42857 The Granary.

Dogs not allowed on the shared lawn.

In 2009 Freshwater West, one of the wildest beaches in Pembrokeshire, famed for its surf and long, golden beach and high, sheltered sand dunes became a film set for not just one blockbuster but two!! Namely Robin Hood and the new Harry Potter movie - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Please note that this property is set in a unique location close to Castlemartin military firing range. The range covers an area of 2400 hectares on the South Pembrokeshire coast within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

The Castlemartin military range closes for the month of August and there are guided walks available during August on the scenic coastal area that covers the military range.

Castlemartin has the highest concentration of seabirds on the Pembrokeshire mainland, including guillemots, razorbills and kittiwakes. Most important of all, it provides an ideal habitat for the nationally-rare chough. The coastal heath and unimproved grassland also supports birds such as wheatears, skylarks, meadow pipits and stonechats. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path, a National Trail, crosses Range East (during non-firing periods) and inland along 8 km of roads past Range West. When firing is in progress the road diversion through Bosherston provides a longer walk. Vehicle access is available to Stack Rocks and St Govan's Chapel. Both of these are popular with sightseers, climbers and fishermen. The sea cliffs provide some of the best cliff climbing in the UK. Range West and the inland part of Range East are generally not open to the public. However, the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority/Defence Estates organises regular accompanied walks into this area. Many other groups are also catered for through annual safety and conservation briefings. These access opportunities are only available during non-firing periods.

The property is approached via a B-road. From the main road you turn onto an unmade, but even shingle driveway and drive 25m to the parking area. There is ample parking for one car, but it can be tight to turn for 2 cars. From the car park you descend 4 stone steps approximately 0.8m wide, the depth and width approximately 25cm x 30cm. Turn right and follow the flat, concrete path round The Granary until you come to the large wooden door, about 25m. Turn and proceed to The Byre, front door is approximately 10m ahead. The front door has a lip 15cm x 15cm approximately to be stepped over. After you have parked on the driveway and settled in at the cottage you can parallel park your car in front of the black garage doors on the roadside during your stay if you prefer. Inside The Byre, the walls are painted white, the floor tiles are beige and the doors are varnished wood. The Byre is all on ground floor with no changes of level and is tiled throughout. All internal door widths are 710mm or more. The kitchen area contains a low-level oven with an inset ceramic hob. The Byre is a well-lit cottage with natural and artificial light in all rooms. There is no phone, but there is internet and TV with teletext. There are outside lights. The TV and DVD player are remotely controlled. The lawns have a slight slope towards the cottage and there are a few slight steps to the barbecue area. There is external lighting to the rear of the cottage. Guide dogs are welcome.
